When we think of God speaking, we often imagine dramatic events like Moses and the burning bush or Paul’s conversion on the road to Damascus. However, God often speaks in much subtler ways, ways that can easily be missed if we’re not paying attention.
Consider the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19. Elijah expected to find God in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire, but instead, he found God in a gentle whisper. This story teaches us that God’s voice is not always in the dramatic or the obvious; sometimes, it’s in the stillness and quiet moments of our lives.
How can we hear God's whisper in the noise of our daily lives? It starts with creating space for quiet and reflection. Find moments in your day to pause, be still, and listen. Whether it's during your morning coffee, a walk in the park, or a quiet moment before bed, these times of stillness allow us to hear God’s whisper.
God’s whisper might also come through the counsel of a trusted friend or the quiet conviction in your heart. It might be a verse that suddenly stands out to you or a feeling of peace about a decision you need to make.
Listening to God's whisper requires us to be intentional and to cultivate a sensitivity to His voice. This week, let’s focus on making space for those quiet moments where we can hear God’s gentle whisper.
Reflection Question: In what ways can you create space for quiet in your life this week to better hear God’s whisper?
