Giving Yourself Permission to Do Things Differently

The traditions you once loved may feel overwhelming after a loss. Grief can make it hard to experience the holidays in the same way. That’s why it’s okay to create new traditions or adjust how you celebrate.
Letting Go of Pressure
You don’t need to attend every holiday party, host a big family dinner, or decorate your house if it feels like too much. Give yourself permission to say no to things that add stress. Instead, focus on what feels manageable and meaningful.
Honoring Your Loved One
Find ways to keep your loved one’s memory alive. Light a candle in their honor, share a favorite story about them, or donate to a cause they cared about. These small acts can bring comfort and a sense of connection.
Scriptural Guidance
Matthew 11:28-30 reminds us, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Trust that God understands your weariness and offers His peace.
Actionable Tip:
Choose one simple tradition to carry forward or create a new one. For example, bake your loved one’s favorite holiday treat or watch their favorite Christmas movie.
